So I presume that the junk filtres used by my email provider is not causing the problem, as it is only one device that it happens.
OUTLOOK STOP MARKING AS READ PRO
It's only the MacBook Pro which has the problem. I have mail accounts for the MacBook Pro (which has OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.5) for my iPad3, my iPhone4 and an old MacBook which the kids use. I've done this several times over the last six months and the email account has never displayed the way it is meant to. I've tried unchecking them and shutting down the computer, then starting up again and checking them and shutting down again etc to no effect. Select the rest of the messages (select one message then hold Shift and scroll to the last message then click) and Mark as Unread.Youll end up with a lot of messages youre done with now marked unread but its as easy as pressing Ctrl+Q to mark them read again. I have checked "Display unread messages in a bold font" and "Display remote images in HTML messages" boxes and neither actually happens. To disable this in Outlook, switch to the View tab, click on the Reading pane button and choose Options.Uncheck Mark item as read when selection changes. Unselect 'Mark items as read when viewed in the Reading Pane'. If you use the default Reading pane options, messages are marked as read after being selected 5 seconds or when another message is selected.

Internet browser mail clients Outlook and Gmail have an annoying. To stop Outlook from marking messages as read when viewed in the reading pane, do the following: Open Outlook. I didn't have the Mail->Preferences->Viewing "Mark all messages as read when opening a conversation" checked. Internet browser mail clients Outlook and Gmail have an annoying habit of marking emails as read.
